MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A federally-funded state program that provides food assistance to Wisconsinites in need is at risk of running out of funding in 10 days, if the U.S. government shutdown continues.

Gov. Tony Evers explained Tuesday that Wisconsin’s FoodShare program, which is fully federally funded, is funded through the end of October.

According to Evers, the Trump administration told state officials “there will be insufficient funds to pay full November SNAP benefits for approximately 42 million individuals across the Nation” and said states should hold their November issuance files and delay transmissions to state EBT vendors.

Gov. Evers said this delay would leave nearly 700,000 Wisconsinites without access to food and other groceries.
