WASHINGTON, Ill. – The city of Washington has created a new back up role for its city administration.

Aldermen on Monday night approved the creation of a Deputy City Administrator position, with Ward IV’s John Blundy the only “no” vote.

The person serving the role must come from existing department heads in the city, and be appointed by the mayor, with a salary determined by the city council for the part-time role.

The move comes as Washington looks for a full-time city administrator after the city parted ways with Jim Snider last year. City Engineer Dennis Carr has been serving in the interim role since then.

Washington is in the process of searching for Snider’s replacement, and is expecting to have a hire by the end of the year.
