HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - Volunteers spent hours cleaning up a community garden in Hartford Tuesday morning as part of Love Hartford Week.
The cleanup focused on the Battles Street Community Garden, where neighborhood residents grow their own food on the land and in the greenhouse.
Volunteers worked to prepare the garden for winter so the growing cycle can begin again in the spring.
“I’m a Hartford resident and I want to volunteer to help out my community. This is one way,” said Charles Vann.
Love Hartford Week is a community effort between Knox Inc. and volunteers from across the city who come together to care for the places they call home.
Knox Inc. was started 50 years ago by former City Councilwoman Betty Knox with the goal of preserving Hartford’s green spaces.
