MINNEAPOLIS — Two of the top executives charged in the massive Evergreen Recovery Medicaid fraud case have become the first to plead guilty.
Shantel Magadanz, Evergreen’s former chief executive officer (CEO), and Heather Heim (CFO) entered guilty pleas in federal court Tuesday to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, admitting as part of plea deals that they played a role in the multi-year scheme to overbill taxpayers for addiction treatment services that were often never provided, or not eligible for reimbursement.
The pleas marks the first convictions in the sprawling case that federal prosecutors say drained more than $30 million from government health-care programs meant to help Minnesotans struggling with addiction.
Magadanz and Heim were indicted in December 2024 following
