ST PAUL, Minn. — After months of road work, Grand Avenue in St. Paul is back open, with the ribbon cut between Macalaster and Wheeler.

The city says the project improved aging infrastructure under the street, and crews also revamped the intersections to improve pedestrian safety.

Business owners on Grand say they took a hit this summer as road construction made it harder for people to get to them. But St. Paul Meat Shop owner Benjamin Roberts said they're happy to see the improvements.

"Any time there's a big project like this, people tend to avoid the area, parking is hard, getting around is hard, so we're just happy to have the vibrancy coming back to our doorstep," Roberts said.

The project is the first to get most of its funding from a 1% sales tax increase in St. Paul.
