PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man is dead after he was hit by a pickup truck while crossing a busy Phoenix roadway on Monday night.

He’s been identified as 49-year-old Chad Bratcher.

Phoenix police and fire crews responded to a crash on McDowell Road near 51st Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. and found Bratcher with critical injuries. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

The driver of the pick-up truck remained on scene, as detectives from Phoenix PD’s Vehicular Crimes Unit responded. Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe Bratcher was crossing McDowell Road mid-block and not near a crosswalk when he was struck by the truck that was heading westbound.
