Want to ride on a haunted Halloween attraction in the comfort of your car? It’s not a trick, and the treat is a clean car.

Hampton Roads businesses are getting into the spirit with haunted car washes that feature costumed actors, strobe lights and spooky visuals.

Grand Slam Car Wash introduced its Tunnel of Terror in 2019 at its Indian River Road location. General manager Josh Maneely had pleaded with owner Vance Bartley for two years to do a haunted car wash.

“When Maneely assured me everything would go smoothly and the event would be executed safely, I finally allowed it to move forward,” Bartley said. “Every year has been a safe and fun event, and our attendance continually seems to grow.”

This year, Grand Slam is deploying an “Outbreak” theme with zombies.
