LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville native Gary Clemons is the Democratic candidate for the Kentucky State Senate District 37 special election , according to a release from the Kentucky Democratic Party.
Clemons will face Republican nominee Calvin Leach. The election, which will take place Dec. 16 for residents in District 37, is to replace former State Sen. David Yates, D-Louisville, who was recently sworn in as Jefferson County Clerk after last month’s death of Bobbie Holsclaw.
The KDP said Clemons was unanimously selected by a committee of his peers. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves and the president of United Steelworkers Local 1693.
