LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Smoke rising near Louisville’s international airport Tuesday might look alarming, but it’s part of a planned emergency drill.
The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) is conducting an aircraft emergency training exercise.
Officials said the airport’s Public Safety Department and several emergency agencies will use a portion of the airport for a simulated aircraft incident.
The training exercise means drivers on I-65 and I-264 and those living near the airport may see or hear the exercise, which includes a period of fire and smoke as well as a heavy presence of emergency vehicles. Roughly 100 volunteers are helping out too by acting as injured passengers on the aircraft.
