Detroit — The Red Wings are about to hit the road but will do so without forward Patrick Kane.

The veteran forward, who was hurt Friday crashing into the boards, will miss road games Wednesday in Buffalo and Thursday on Long Island against the New York Islanders, coach Todd McLellan said.

McLellan noted Kane did skate Tuesday, as the Wings returned to the ice after a day off Monday, which gives McLellan hope Kane could be available to play Saturday when the Wings host St. Louis.

The games in Buffalo and New York begin a stretch in which the Wings play seven of their next eight games away from Little Caesars Arena.
