Don Burke has spoken out for the first time in eight years, claiming he was the victim of a media vendetta after being accused of sexual misconduct and bullying during his time as one of Australia's most recognisable TV faces.

The 78-year-old, who hosted the hugely popular Burke's Backyard from 1987 to 2004, fell from grace in 2017 when a joint ABC and Fairfax investigation detailed allegations from more than 50 people, including TV personalities, journalists and former crew members.

Among those to speak out were Kerri-Anne Kennerley, sports reporter Caroline Wilson and Olympian Susie O'Neill, as well as former Burke's Backyard staffers Bridget Ninness and Louise Langdon.
