The race for Roseville City Council and other elected positions in the city’s government took on late intrigue with the death of a councilmember and a write-in candidacy.
Jan Haggerty, a councilwoman who was up for election, died Oct. 14 three weeks before the election.
According to the city clerk’s office, Haggerty’s name will still appear on the Nov. 4 general election ballot. The city charter mandates her vacancy must be filled by an appointment within 30 days after the election and will remain in effect until the next city election in 2027.
Elsewhere, local artist Edward “Gonzo” Stross hopes to capitalize on his huge online presence and opposition to the demolition of Sacred Heart Church with a write-in campaign to challenge Mayor Robert Taylor. His name will not appear on the ballo
