BUXTON, N.C. (WAVY) - Dare County announced Tuesday that its debris removal collector, Dupon, is scheduled to remove the final round of debris Wednesday following the recent house collapses in the Outer Banks over the past few weeks.
The most recent house collapse happened Saturday, Oct. 18, around 7:45 p.m. at 46006 Cottage Avenue. This marked the tenth house to collapse on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore since Sept. 30 and the eighth in Buxton.
Majority of the homes on the seashore were built during the 1970s through the 1990s, located several hundred feet away from the ocean. Due to the seashore consistently eroding, these houses have made their way to the water's edge, leading to structure collapses that result in large amounts of deb
