The Little Compton Agricultural Conservancy Trust has purchased 2.61 acres of land on Colebrook Road that the trust’s chairman said could help give kayakers and others easier access to Simmons Mill Pond, while keeping the memory of three generations of a local family alive .

The trust purchased the land at 175 Colebrook Road, just northeast of and across the street from the Simmons Mill Pond parking lot, earlier this month from Anita Couto and Crystal Neronha. The price was $250,000.

While there is still much to be done before it is ready for public enjoyment, trust chairman Donald McNaughton said the plan is to work with officials from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM), which owns the Simmons Mill Pond Management area, to aid kayakers who
