Waste Management is seeking county approval to expand both the service area and capacity of the Chastang Landfill in north Mobile County, a move that would more than double the facility’s intake and allow it to accept waste from three states.

Filed July 8, the WM-Mobile Bay application requests a permit modification to increase the landfill’s maximum daily volume from 1,725 tons to 5,000 tons and extend its service area beyond Mobile County to multiple counties in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.
