A deputy U.S. Marshal and a suspect were injured Tuesday morning in a shooting during an immigration enforcement operation in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
The incident was reported around 8:52 a.m. near the 10 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said the suspect “weaponized his vehicle and began ramming the law enforcement vehicle in an attempt to flee” when federal immigration officers tried to perform a traffic stop.
Both the LAPD and federal agencies are investigating the shooting.
