New Orleans City Hall may not be able to make payroll for the rest of the year because of newly discovered cash flow constraints, according to a City Council press release on Tuesday afternoon.

A special council meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Wednesday to address the issue with city officials.

Chief Administrative Officer Joe Threat alerted Councilmembers Joe Giarrusso and Helena Moreno that “cash-flow issues have now become even more severe than originally anticipated, so much so that payroll may be able to be met,” the council’s press release states.

It was not immediately clear exactly what Threat told the council members. Moreno will become mayor on Jan. 12 after her outright primary victory this month.
