WASHINGTON D.C., DC — A Georgia Congresswoman joined 31 colleagues in sending a letter opposing a petition to change the national voter registration application.

Rep. Nikema Williams says the petition, submitted by the American Legal First (AFL) to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), aims to require people to show documentary proof of citizenship, also known as "show your papers" requirements.

Williams says the petition mirrors President Donald Trump's Executive Order and the stalled SAVE Act. She and other members who joined the petition say it will burden Americans' fundamental right to vote.
