TEMPE, Ariz. — Tempe Town Lake is expected to soon offer a new type of amenity for visitors to the artificial reservoir.

On Oct. 16, the Tempe City Council approved an agreement with Arizona Cycle Boats that allows the company to operate large tour boats on the lake for the next 15 years.

The boats will hold up to 26 passengers and come equipped with several cycling seats that allow riders to pedal the boat along, according to Robert Mayer of Arizona Cycle Boats.

Getting a fleet of tour boats to the Tempe lake has been years in the making, Mayer said, and their presence on the water will surely attract locals and tourists.
