They’re knocking on the door once more.

The Western Mustangs women’s soccer team needs two wins to earn an elusive Ontario university title. The Mustangs are usually in the mix, but haven’t brought the banner back since 2004.

“The players know every year it’s a new competition,” head coach Onkar Dhillon said. “We don’t hide from that reality and that’s our objective. It’s on our minds, but we don’t look ahead. If we do the little things right, it will lead to bigger opportunities.”

Western, No. 4 in the recent U Sports rankings, dispatched national championship host McMaster 2-1 in a quarterfinal match this past weekend. They can reach the OUA final and qualify for the big Hamilton trip by dumping the Varsity Blues in the semis this Saturday at Toronto.
