MANDAN, N.D. (KFYR) - Mandan High School is now recognized as a Special Olympics Unified Champion School.

To earn this title, there are certain criteria that each school has to meet. One of these is whole school engagement, which the school achieves by organizing different activities and inclusive sports.

“I think it means that, like, we’re the benchmark for what other schools should look for for inclusivity, like they should use us as kind of a good example for it,” said junior Brandon Johnson.

The school also has a Peer-to-Peer class open to anyone.

“Some people think it’s only for Special Ed kids, but it’s really not, so,” said senior Tyler Walther. “Anyone can join.”

More than 17 schools in North Dakota are part of the Unified Champion Schools program.
