It doesn’t sound like Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy will return to the field for their “Thursday Night Football” road game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The 22-year-old JJ McCarthy suffered an ankle injury in Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons and hasn’t played since. Backup Carson Wentz played well in relief over the next three weeks, going 2-1 as the starter and nearly leading them to a thrilling comeback win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.

But Wentz struggled mightily in a 28-22 home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7, throwing no touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss. The Vikings are now 3-3 and last in the gauntlet that is the NFC North division.
