Kurt Suzuki was born Kurtis Kiyoshi Suzuki on October 4, 1983, in Wailuku, Hawaii. He is a fourth-generation Japanese American with strong ties to the islands. He played 16 years as a Major League Baseball catcher for five different teams: the Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals, Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves, and Los Angeles Angels. In 2014, he was an All-Star with Minnesota, and in 2019, he won the World Series with Washington.

After the 2022 season with the Angels, Suzuki retired from playing and quickly moved up to managing the same Los Angeles Angels team where he had played his last game. His rise from dependable catcher to big-league manager shows the leadership skills that made him stand out in the game.
