The Springport football team has not had too many close games this year. The first six times the undefeated Spartans took the field, they averaged 38.6 points per game and allowed on average 6.3 points per game. A 14-point win over Decatur and a 16-point win over Quincy were the two closest games they’d played through seven weeks.
But when the Spartans went on the road to Union City in Week 8 with a chance to clinch their first Big 8 title in 15 years, the Chargers jumped in front, and Springport had to battle its way back.
