BEAUMONT, Texas — Representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation briefed Beaumont City Council this week on a series of ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects aimed at improving mobility and safety across the region.

Dave Collins, TxDOT’s area engineer, said the department’s top priority remains the I-10/US 69 interchange project, which will expand the highway from four lanes to six. The massive undertaking is expected to be completed by late 2030 or early 2031.

Collins also shared that the I-10 section between Hamshire Road and Walton Road is on track for completion in early to mid-2027. Meanwhile, work continues on the Cardinal Drive project, where crews are connecting the frontage roads from the Tinseltown and Pappadeaux’s area across Hillebrandt Bayou to Sam’s Cl
