HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The commonwealth is no longer sending millions of dollars in local aid payments to the city of Holyoke putting city services at risk.

The state said Holyoke has not kept up with their financial paperwork in over three years. According to the Division of Local Services, the state has put those aid payments on hold and says they’ll continue to do so until the proper paperwork is filed. Those payments, funding things like education, public safety, and public works within the city.

Deborah Wagner, the division’s Director of Accounts, sent two letters to Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia. One in September, and one earlier this month, warning that the city’s finance records did not meet the “minimum standard.” She also warned that the state could take action if condition
