The Great Smoky Mountains National Park will remain fully open and operational through Nov. 2 amid the federal government shutdown, thanks to continued funding from a group of nonprofits and local and state leaders.
This latest round of funding follows two previous payments that reopened the park Oct. 4 and then extended the opening through Oct. 19 . The extension to Nov. 2 is beyond the standard increment, and multiple agreements will be signed over the next couple of weeks to maintain funding, as announced Oct. 17 by Sevier County, Tennessee.
