LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - With the sudden absence of Skyler Gill-Howard, who is out for the rest of the regular season, fellow transfer A.J. Holmes, Jr. is now taking on that role as leader for No. 14 Texas Tech- both on and off the field. For him, the move feels natural.
“It feels great. It’s a bad loss that we took with Skyler going down, but just to have his back and to be able to step up and keep the same type of trajectory going is just a blessing, so I’m excited to be in this position,” he said.
Holmes has accounted for 3.5 sacks this season, including three in the last two games. Team leadership, however, goes beyond what is produced on game day. For No. 33, that also includes matching the vocal leadership that his predecessor brought to the team.
