HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Former Holyoke City Councilor Wilmer Puello-Mota, who fled the United States nearly two years ago, is seeking the right to vote in the upcoming election despite his unresolved legal issues.
Puello-Mota left the U.S. following his arrest on child pornography charges and recently submitted a Federal Postcard Application to vote, which was reviewed by Holyoke City Clerk Brenna Murphy Leary. Holyoke City Clerk Brenna Murphy Leary stated that Puello-Mota was determined not qualified to vote.
Puello-Mota departed the United States from Dulles International Airport bound for Istanbul, Turkey on January 7, 2024, just days before he was scheduled to appear in Rhode Island court to plead guilty to charges of possession of child pornography and lying to prosecutors.
