FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Indiana State Health Department shows overdose hospitalizations in Allen County have been dropping every year since 2021.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s still not a problem.
Jon Elia with Avenues Recovery says he’s on his own recovery journey and using his story to help others.
“I think sometimes now that it’s almost been ten years, people are somewhat surprised when they hear that I’m in recovery and you kind of get that, ‘Oh he did it, maybe I could do it.’” Jon Elia.
But that path looks a bit different today than it did a decade ago.
He says that while heroin and prescription painkillers were once the top drug, fentanyl has taken over nearly every corner of the drug supply.
