DAVIESS CO., Ky. (WFIE) - The Paris prosecutor says the crown jewels stolen in a Louvre heist were worth an estimated 88 million euros.

That translates to $102 million, but that monetary estimate doesn’t include their historical value to France.

Officials say about 100 investigators are now involved in the police hunt for the thieves and the gems after Sunday’s theft.

We’ve learned there were some Tri-State high school students there to witness it.

A class from Trinity High School, in Whitesville, was on a field trip to Europe and were inside the Louvre when the heist happened.

We spoke to a couple of those students, who tell us they were about to walk in to the Gallery of Apollo, where the heist took place, when they heard the sound of chainsaws.
