LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

West Kentucky Street has a brand-new look and a new direction — one that goes both ways.

A more than $1 million Louisville Metro Public Works project has converted the corridor to a two-way street between 5th and 8th streets and extended the existing two-way section from 5th to 15th Street, reconnecting Old Louisville with the California neighborhood.

The upgrade brings bike lanes, rebuilt sidewalks and more visible crosswalks designed to calm traffic and make walking and biking safer.

“It’s designed to slow you down and cut down on confusion to motorists,” Mayor Craig Greenberg said. “We’ve got more visible crosswalks at Fifth and Seventh Street, so pedestrians are safer.”
