SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The city has begun a complete reconstruction of South Cornelia Street in the Morningside neighborhood following a water main break that c aused the road to collapse on Oct. 11.

The stretch of South Cornelia Street just off Lincoln Way completely caved in after the water main break.

City engineers presented two repair options: a short-term fix for about $100,000 or a long-term fix for about $750,000.

The city chose the more expensive option, deciding to replace the water main and reconstruct the entire street from Wellington Avenue to Lincoln Way rather than simply paving over the damaged area.

Construction timeline and process

The city sent a letter to residents of the impacted neighborhood over the weekend outlining the repair process.
