A Maryland nail salon owner and mother of four detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement has returned to her family, but after decades of living in the U.S., she fears a conviction on her record from when she was a teenager could force her out of the country.
Melissa Tran came to the U.S. 32 years ago as a Vietnam refugee when she was 11.

The Hagerstown resident said when she went to her yearly immigration check-in last May, she was detained without explanation for five months — May 12 to Oct. 12.
“I was shocked and scared,” she said. “… I’ve been checking for the last 21 years, I never expected to go and never get to go home.”
