WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Wayne Co. officials announced today that the ongoing shutdown may cause residents to receive late Food and Nutrition Services benefits next month.

The Department of Health and Human Services says the county is working to get a better idea of what this means for those relying on FNS benefits.

DHHS says those who use FNS benefits may either receive delayed benefits or may not see their typical amount.

This comes as several other counties are also at risk of altered benefits while the shutdown continues.

FNS recipients can check their balances in the ebtEDGE app or by calling the number on the back of the EBT card.

Individuals may dial 2-1-1 or visit NC211.org to connect with local food pantries, meal programs, and other essential services.
