ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) -- Fire crews responded Tuesday evening after smoke was seen coming from the entryway of a vacant commercial building that once operated as a Tops grocery store, according to the Rochester Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched just after 7:30 p.m. and arrived three minutes later to find smoke showing from the front of the one-story structure. A working fire was declared, and crews removed boards from the building to access and extinguish flames in the entryway.
The fire was brought under control just before 8 p.m. Firefighters then ventilated the roof to check for any fire extension into the ceiling void space and remained on scene for overhaul operations.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
