[LINN COUNTY, Iowa] — Leaders in Linn County are considering the construction of more data centers in the region due to the increasing popularity of artificial intelligence. Last night, the Planning and Zoning Commission began discussions about developing zoning codes for these facilities.

Google has shown interest in building a new data center near the Duane Arnold Nuclear Facility. Charlie Nichols, Director of Linn County Planning and Development, said there are several factors to consider.

"Power demand in the US has been flat for decades and decades, and this has changed recently really in the past five years as these larger data centers have begun to be constructed across the US," Nichols said.

The commission will also evaluate the noise these facilities can produce and their power
