BANGOR, Maine — Bangor City Councilors are exploring new rules for online public participation after a recent council meeting was derailed by anonymous attendees using slurs and offensive language.

"We can't have what happened before continue, doing nothing is the worst option possible," Councilor Jospeh Leonard explained.

The disruption occurred during a meeting addressing a failed proposed resolve that would require any agreement between the City of Bangor and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be reviewed by the city manager, city council committees, and open to public comment.
