BESSEMER, Ala. —
Mercy Deliverance Ministries is anticipating more demand for its mobile grocery store if the government shutdown continues.
The mobile grocery store was at the Bessemer Recreation Center Tuesday, serving residents there.
Aside from the food bank, Mercy Deliverance is the only organization in Birmingham that distributes free food twice a month.
Through grants and donations, its mobile store is able to sell tax-free, name-brand groceries at below wholesale prices.
"We all know that ... more food on their table," said Toni Vines, founder of Mercy Deliverance Ministries.
Vines said growth has been tremendous, and the store hasn't even been open for a year.
She expects the organization will give away even more food next month due to unknowns surrounding the government sh
