LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kernel Media, the University of Kentucky’s student-run media outlet, brought home 59 awards from MediaFest, a national college media convention.

The Kentucky Kernel and KRNL Lifestyle + Fashion won Pinnacle, Pacemaker and Best of Show awards during the convention, hosted by the Associated Collegiate Press, College Media Association and Society of Professional Journalists.

The Kentucky Kernel’s “Kernel Chronicles” show won one of two broadcast Pacemaker awards given across the country, marking a big achievement for the outlet’s broadcast program, according to editor-in-chief, Giana Gallo.

“I look at the other nominations and they’re all TV stations,” Gallo said. “Then i look at us and we’re not a radio station, we’re not a TV station and we did it.”
