The Emporia Metropolitan Planning Commission recommended an island annexation of 800 Road 160 into city limits Tuesday evening. The 58-acre tract of land is set to be developed into an expansion for A1 Pump and Jet, an Emporia-based waste management company.

The lot holds a County Heavy Industrial Zoning designation and includes roughly ten-acres of floodplain land, which would need to be mitigated by city engineering or the state of Kansas before any official use. Justin Givens, City Planning and Zoning Coordinator, said that the floodplain would likely not be used for development.
