JOAQUIN, Tx. (KTAL/KMSS) — Mariana Minerals and Select Water Solutions ("Select") are set to launch a lithium extraction facility in Joaquin, Texas, with operations beginning in 2027.
The facility is expected to create nearly 300 jobs in both construction and long-term positions, significantly impacting the local economy.
"Oh, this is going to bring a lot to Joaquin. It's gonna bring jobs, hopefully bring more business, the morale. I mean, it's had a huge impact," said Mayor Jessie Griffith.
The lithium extraction process will utilize wastewater from the oil and gas industry, converting it into a solid product for the lithium-ion battery supply chain.
