GRESHAM, Ore. — The sister of a woman shot in a Gresham strip mall parking lot over the weekend described her sibling as a strong, helpful person Tuesday afternoon outside the hospital where she is recovering.

Jessica Hawash said her sister, 30-year-old Myranda Rice, was trying to help a man being attacked when she was shot.

“The whole situation just kind of proves who she is. She was helping a stranger,” Hawash said.

Hawash said Rice and her partner left Division Sports Pub early Sunday morning when they saw a man being attacked.

“When they went to leave after trying to separate it, one of the patrons attacking the man on the ground pulled a weapon and shot at them. It hit my sister in the spine,” she said.
