Remnants of a shipwreck experts believe to be more than 100 years old have appeared on a secluded beach at Jervis Bay on the NSW South Coast.

The object was first reported to Heritage NSW by staff working on the Beecroft Weapons Range in February this year.

Recent weather conditions have uncovered significantly more of the shipwreck on Target Beach.

"It's in a funny location for a shipwreck to be in … the south-west corner of the bay in a sheltered area," senior maritime archaeologist with Heritage NSW, Brad Duncan, said.

"What we're possibly looking at is a section of a vessel and it's probably from a bulkhead, like an internal wall.

" It's possible it could've come from a number of different sources. "
