The Mohawk High School girls volleyball program earned its first section title when it finished in a three-way tie for first place in Class 2A Section 4.
The Warriors recorded another first on Tuesday with their 25-17, 25-20, 25-13 sweep of Southmoreland in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs. The victory earns Mohawk its first trip to the quarterfinals.
Mohawk is making only its fifth playoff appearance since 2000. The Warriors won a preliminary round match in 2016, but lost in the first round. The win against Southmoreland marks their first win in a first-round match.
"We are making history happen," Mohawk coach Anna Fadden said. "We will be getting first banner for winning a section title. Now we get to play in the quarterfinals for the first time. It's super exciting for
