Amid a loss in revenue of over $2 million, Donna city leaders approved increasing water and sewer rates by 15% back in September.

That increase is now in effect.

Under the increase, a family of four that uses about 6,000 gallons of water per month will see an increase of about $12 on their bill.

Donna Mayor David Moreno previously told Channel 5 News the majority of the loss stems from the March 2025 closure of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection immigration processing facility that was in the city.

Moreno said the rate increase will help the city’s budget.

“With the revenue we will be getting from the increases, we have already budgeted about $650,000 to address flooding issues in the city,” Moreno said.

Residents will see the increase in the bill they receive in December 2025.
