COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia City Council has decided to delay a proposal that could develop new homes near Burnside Elementary School as residents raise concerns about traffic and growth in the area.

The proposal would annex about 1.4 acres of undeveloped land at the edge of Holloway Road into the city and rezone it for residential use. That parcel connects to the much larger Cassetta Pines subdivision, a planned development that would include more than 240 single-family homes on over 60 acres off Patterson Road.

Earlier this month, the Columbia Planning Commission deferred its decision on the Cassetta Pines project to gather more information about its potential impact.
