FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — After disruptive incidents in the heart of Freeport, city leaders are taking action by installing surveillance cameras downtown, an initiative backed and funded by a local business concerned about safety.
The Freeport City Council approved the installation of two new security cameras, an initiative that originated from the local business Revamp.
The cameras will be mounted on light poles to provide comprehensive surveillance coverage, particularly on Stevenson Street.
"You know, one of the main streets in our downtown. So, you know, we've had some recent, downtown, incidents where certain people are, whether it be they think they're having fun or just causing a little bit of a ruckus," said Freeport communications director Brian Bridge.
