Hot conditions and wild winds have forced the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) to issue an “Advice” alert for West Wallsend on Wednesday afternoon.
It’s just one of nine major blazes currently being tackled by volunteers throughout the state, including Killingworth in the Cessnock LGA, on 22 October.
The fire is burning near Mount Sugarloaf Road and heading in an easterly direction towards O’Donnelltown.
The warning level was downgraded from “Watch and Act” after firefighters gained the upper hand.
They, and waterbombing aircraft, are still controlling the fire as of late Wednesday.
