SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. —

The South Lake Tahoe City Council appointed Cody Bass as the new mayor Tuesday night after former Mayor Tamara Wallace resigned earlier this month following her confession to embezzling money from a church where she worked as an administrator.

Wallace submitted her resignation letter on the 13th , urging Bass to resign as well.

Bass was arrested in September in connection with an alleged assault and threats at a bar in Stateline, where he had been banned.

Addressing the allegations during the meeting on Tuesday, Bass said, "I never assaulted a single person. I am absolutely innocent to the fullest degree."

He asked the public not to judge him over something that he says hasn't been proved.
